A full-day journey from Tirana to Berat, Albania’s UNESCO-listed “city of windows,” featuring scenic stops in Belsh and the Dumreja lakes, guided walks through the historic quarters of Mangalem and Gorica, a visit to Berat Castle with panoramic views, and an authentic cultural experience with local traditions before returning to Tirana.
Today you meet with our guide at the given meeting point and will start our journey towards Berat, known as the city of thousand windows but the real story is that Berat is known as windows over windows city. Berat known as one of the most visited destinations in Albania and loved by many because of the unique architecture and cultural richness.
During our trip you will make our first stop in Belshi where you will pass some free time to absorb the stillness of the lake and the local life of this small town.
You continue towards Berat passing through Dumreja region where you will get the chance to see multiple karstic lakes located on this region.
Further along the way you will pass near old oil wells. Offering you a glimpse Albanian industrial development during the communism time. Once you reach Berat you will walk on the old quarters of Mangalem and Gorica. Take pictures from the hanging bridge as the best view over the old quarter. Berat a UNESCO World Heritage site
You will later on continue to one of typical traditional houses where you will meet the local family and learn more about the local traditions while enjoying a Turkish coffee and the Albanian Raki.
Next you will have some free time for lunch to enjoy the finger licking food of Berat cuisine. You continue with a transfer up to the Castle where you can enjoy the stunning panoramas of the city and the valley of Osum river best place for this is the view point of the Castle. After that walk around the narrow-cobbled paths to reach the, several nice and cozy orthodox churches, among the most notable Onufri church but all not to be forgotten, the Emperor Constantin statue who was the creator of the Constantinople and the creator of the Byzantine Empire.
Free time at you own leisure to explore the castle a bit more or to visit Onufri museum.
Afternoon you get ready to be transferred back to Tirana via Rrogozhina where you will pass through Elbasan Metallurgical plant, once one of the largest industrial complexes ever built in Albania. Known as the former Enver Hoxha Metallurgical Factory, it was constructed with Chinese assistance and represented an ambitious project of its time. The concept was to import nickel from the East and process it locally to produce materials for tanks, aircraft, and heavy industry. You will enter the factory grounds to observe this monumental site up close. Continuing towards Tirana afterwards and ending your day trip.
